Seems like today everyone tries to push amps/speakers past their design limits. And who knows how hard they were pushed in the past. However the Celestron's may break up faster than Jensens. I don't think that will cause you any distortion. The way I remember it is, 2-12 Bandmasters ran 4 ohms, but the amps can handle 8 ohms with no problem. I don't have any love for Celestron speakers. If I remember some had Utah speakers not Jensen and you could also order a set of JBL's. I think you'll get a cleaner sound with Jensen's Blue label like the ones most the original Fender Bandmasters had.
In terms of the reverb tank I wouldn't have a clue - hopefully some others might be a bit more helpful than me on that one! It's part of the reason I want a matching cab, I figure it might give me a bit more clean headroom? Also interesting to hear that Webers are British sounding, when I think if British tones I think of Celestions (probably because of Marshalls). Do you find your bandmaster is breaking up at around 4-5? Mine breaks up before that (even with single coils) but I wonder if that because I'm running it into an 8 ohm cab. I'm a "Fender guy" through and through (guitars, amps, even my damn strap), so it's never sit perfectly with me from my research that the two speakers in my cabinet are hyped up as "that great British" or "Marshall tone". It sounds great, but I can't help but wonder what the stock speakers sounded like, and I'm also curious what it would sound like with Greenback speakers or something similar. The head and cab came together, and according to the person I bought it from, the cabinet has Weber speakers (a Silverbell, and a Blue Dog). I don't think I turned my amp above 4 or 5. Never had any trouble hearing it with a drummer.
